“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
Scripture Therapy is founded on the principles and practices of the Bible, Dr. William Glasser’s Choice Theory and Reality Therapy, and life experience. It is a component of Internal Empowerment Coaching and Scripture Therapy through IECAST, Inc. a non-profit organization.
These principles are appropriate and relevant to people of all faiths, backgrounds, ages, and walks of life. Scripture Therapy focuses on the God-given power inside every individual to direct their own choices and behaviors absent the influence or control of external figures or groups (external control).
Scripture Therapy enables individuals to confidently trust God and themselves as they pursue the life God has for them in responsible and healthy ways. Individuals become aware of their power through God and their personal responsibility to take control of their lives. They understand why and how they can reorganize their behavior to effectively and responsibly fulfill their needs and wants.Through the Scripture Therapy Program, individuals:
- Learn why and how they behave as they do
- Discover and value themselves
- Find Happiness
- Enhance their relationships, behavior, choices, and trust in God
- Find freedom from addicting habits, blame, and lack of responsibility
- Become confident and self-assured
- Improve employer-employee relations
- Improve teamwork
- Increase employee productivity
- Increase employee moral
- An overall positive work environment
The Scripture Therapy Program is effective with managers, employees, families, troubled teens, students, athletes, military veterans, mental health patients, incarcerated individuals, and others from all walks of life. The program has been implemented across ethnic and racial groups and is appropriate for all ages from elementary to university students to adults.
Scripture Therapy is effective with people from all work environments and social groups, including corporate boardrooms and gang infested areas. It has been successfully used by persons experiencing challenges with bullying, social interaction issues, anger, anxiety, depression, grief, eating disorders, marriage and family issues, workplace guidance, and career counseling.
It has also been used in rehabilitation, substance abuse intervention, educational environments, non-profit organizations, and ministries.
Both Scripture Therapy and Alcoholics Anonymous respect the importance of individual responsibility and faith in a higher power. However, Scripture Therapy takes an in-depth look into an individual’s Quality World, needs, and wants.
This understanding is used to address the needs that any unhappy person (not just alcoholics) is trying to meet in unhealthy or irresponsible ways. Meeting these needs is at the root of addictive behaviors and is an important part of taking responsibility for our choices and finding healthy ways to get what we want.
Scripture Therapy recognizes the value of learning and growth from many sources, including self-help groups. Participating in these will be important for some and we fully support this choice when used alongside Scripture Therapy training.
